Sizes and Lengths
Necklace Sizes (inches)
Lengths vary depending on size of person. Use the standards below to help visualize how a necklace will fit. The standard necklace lengths used in the jewelry industry are as follows:
Necklaces for Women
| 16" | Choker |
Chokers rest just above the collar-bone, accenting your neckline. Collars are shorter necklaces that wrap snugly around your neck. |
| 17"-19" | Princess | Princess styles typically rest just over the collar-bone. This length is probably the most common necklace length. |
| 20"-24" | Matinee | Matinee styles rest a few inches below the collar-bone. |
| 22" | At or above the neckline. | |
| 24" | Below the neckline. | |
| 28"-32" | Opera | Opera styles are designed to drape over the mid-section. |
| 45"+ | Lariat, or Rope | This style is a long string of beads, which can be looped, wrapped, or draped. A Rope may or may not have a clasp. Lariat is an extraordinary length without a clasp. |
Necklaces for Men
| 18" | Base of the neck. |
| 20" | To the collarbone. |
| 22" | A few inches below the collarbone. |
| 24" | Just above the sternum. |
Your size will affect how a piece will look when worn. Example: a choker on a plus size lady will hang further down on a petite person. If you consider your build to be larger or smaller than what's considered "average," necklaces or other pieces of jewelry might fit you differently. Let the lengths of the jewelry you already own be your guide when determining size.

Taking Measurements
Tips for using soft tape:
1. Wrap the tape around the body part to be measured (wrist or ankle) to where its snug.
For necklaces, let the tape lay on your body where you want the necklace to rest.
2. Finally, back up slightly so the tape is loose (about a half of an inch to allow for size of beads).
If you dont have a soft tape, and you dont know your jewelry size, you can use string and a ruler or
measuring tape instead:
1. Wrap a piece of string around the body part to be measured (wrist or ankle) to where its snug.
For necklaces, let the string lay on your body where you want the necklace to rest.
2. Then back up slightly so the string is loose (about a half of an inch to allow for size of beads).
3. Finally, lay the string next to the ruler or measuring tape to get the length for the jewelry item.
